Private James Edwin White served with the 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers, landing in France on 13th November 1914 and qualifying for the 1914 Star (“Mons Star”). He was admitted to No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station on 8th December 1914 suffering from malaria, returning to duty on 12th December.

He was from Winterbourne Abbas, Dorset.

The 1st South Wales Borderers were heavily involved in early operations on the Western Front, and White’s early arrival and brief hospitalisation mark him as one of the original British Expeditionary Force members to endure the gruelling winter of 1914.
