Second World War British War Medal - Corporal Alan Preen, Royal Signals
British War Medal - unnamed as issued
Comes with original box
Alan F. Preen served during the Second World War in the Royal Corps of Signals, where he reached the rank of Corporal and held the service number 14898551. Little is known about his early life, but surviving material confirms that after the war he became a long-standing member of the Royal Corps of Signals Association, retaining close ties to his wartime branch.
His membership card (which is NOT included with the medal and box, photos were sent to me and that’s all) records him as Cpl. A. F. Preen, with earlier handwritten notes showing an address in SW18, indicating that he lived in South West London prior to relocating to Orkney. Later in life he settled in the islands, living at “Midbrigg, Grimister, Kirkwall, Orkney”, as shown on the official O.H.M.S medal box addressed to him, earlier he lived at Farthing’s, Hillside Road, Stromness, where he appears to have lived with his wife Ella Preen, whose details are attached to the membership card.
His Royal Signals Association card tracks his annual subscription payments throughout the 1960s and 1970s, showing many years of continuous membership — evidence of a man who maintained a lifelong connection to the Corps and his wartime comrades. Just to note again, the membership card is not included in this sale.
