George Arthur Pasifull was born in 1916 at Bexley Heath, Kent, the son of Samuel and Emily Pasifull. He was recorded on the 1921 Census living with his parents at 30 Woolwich Road, Bexley Heath, where his father was head of the household.

He enlisted into the Royal Regiment of Artillery, serving throughout the Second World War under service number 864083. His service included duty with a Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, reflecting the vital defensive role played by the Royal Artillery in protecting Britain and overseas theatres from aerial attack during the war.

Pasifull served overseas and was later transferred from the Royal Artillery to the Wiltshire Regiment, a common practice late in the war as manpower was redistributed across infantry units. He held the rank of Gunner during his artillery service and later served as a Private following his transfer.

He was discharged on 20 October 1945, Class “A”, and subsequently applied for his campaign medals from his home address at 30 Woolwich Road, Bexley Heath, Kent. His medals were officially authorised and issued on 24 February 1949.

For his wartime service, George Arthur Pasifull was entitled to the following awards:

  • 1939–45 Star
  • Africa Star (Also the 1st Army clasp but it is missing from the group)
  • France & Germany Star
  • Defence Medal
  • War Medal 1939–45

Following the war, Pasifull married May Elizabeth Laurie in 1938; following her death in 1943, he later remarried Jenny Emily Hicks in 1949. He continued to reside in the Bexley Heath area and died on 28 April 1950 at The Memorial Hospital, Shooters Hill, Woolwich, aged just 34.

This group represents a genuine and well-documented example of Royal Artillery and infantry service during the Second World War, including overseas operations in North Africa and North-West Europe, and reflects the broad scope of service undertaken by British soldiers during the conflict.
