D. McLeod was born in Stornoway, Western Isles, Scotland and enlisted into the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders in Inverness.

1st Battalion Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders served overseas on active service in Aden Colony between September 1956 to March 1958

During their service in Aden Colony the main role of the 1/Camerons was to support the Aden Protectorate Levies in operations to prevent incursions by Yemeni tribesmen. While the battalion was headquartered at Singapore Lines in Aden, companies were detached to Dhala, Mukeirasand Beihan in the Protectorate, and at 'Little Aden' guarding the BP oil refinery.

The General Service Medal with clasp 'Arabian Peninsula' was awarded to men of the 1st Battalion Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders for 30 days service in theatre (award criteria for the clas was 30 days between the dates 1 January 1957 to 30 December 1960.

A scarce seen medal and clasp to the 1/Camerons.
