Charles Henry Edwards was born in 1913 in Worcestershire and later resided in Worcester. Prior to and between periods of military service he was employed as a postman with the UK Post Office, and he married Violet E. Edwards, with whom he lived in Kidderminster.
Edwards enlisted into the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, serving initially as a Private. During the inter-war period he saw overseas service with the 2nd Battalion, qualifying for the India General Service Medal with clasp ‘Burma 1930–32’, indicating active service in Burma during operations against insurgent forces.
By the Second World War he had risen to the rank of Serjeant and was serving with the 1st Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. During this period he was serving within the United Kingdom.
On 30 August 1943, Serjeant Edwards was accidentally killed while on active service, aged 30. His death was reported to the War Office Casualty Branch and formally recorded in the official casualty lists. He is buried at Far Forest (Holy Trinity) Churchyard, Rock, Worcestershire, where he is commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
He is recorded as the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Edwards, and the husband of Violet E. Edwards of Kidderminster, and is remembered with honour for his service to the United Kingdom.
