United Nations Korea Medal – British Issue (No Ribbon)
United Nations Korea Medal, the British-issued type awarded to UK personnel who served under UN command during the Korean War, 1950–1953, offered here without its ribbon. Struck in a light nickel-coloured alloy, the medal shows the United Nations emblem on the obverse, with the reverse carrying the inscription “FOR SERVICE IN DEFENCE OF THE PRINCIPLES OF THE CHARTER OF THE UNITED NATIONS”. The surfaces retain good detail and present well, with the original suspension bar intact and ready for replacement ribbon if desired.
The medal was instituted in December 1950 for all UN contingents participating in the Korean War, and British recipients included soldiers, sailors and airmen who served across Korea, Japan, and the surrounding seas during the conflict. British units played a central role in a number of major actions, notably the battles of the Imjin River, the Hook, and the early defence of the Pusan Perimeter, as well as convoy escort duties, carrier aviation operations and high-altitude bomber support.
