Richard Lawson, service number 14925, served with the King’s Liverpool Regiment during the First World War. He first arrived in France in early March 1915, joining the fighting on the Western Front as part of the 4th Battalion. Like many men of Kitchener’s early wartime recruits from Liverpool, he endured the heavy trench warfare of 1915–1917 as the battalion cycled through the major sectors held by the regiment.
By 1918 Lawson was still with the battalion and was wounded during the final phase of the war. He appeared on the War Office Daily List of 17 October 1918, confirming he had been wounded in action and was entitled to wear the Wound Stripe. His next of kin was recorded as being in Liverpool, consistent with his enlistment and regimental connection to the city.
Lawson continued to serve through the closing months of the conflict and was later demobilised after the Armistice.
