British Civil Defence Long Service Medal – With Original Box of Issue
British Civil Defence Long Service Medal in average condition, complete with its original box of issue which is rusty at the hinges. Instituted in 1961, this medal was awarded to members of the UK’s Civil Defence services—including Civil Defence Corps, Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS), National Hospital Service Reserve (NHSR) and others—after 15 years of continuous, efficient service in support of national emergency preparedness during the Cold War.
Struck in cupro-nickel, the medal bears the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The reverse features the Civil Defence emblem within a wreath, with the legend CIVIL DEFENCE LONG SERVICE. It is fitted with the distinctive ribbon of yellow with narrow black edges, representing vigilance and civil protection.
An appealing, increasingly collectable Cold War long-service medal, especially sought after by those interested in home front history, the Civil Defence Corps, or UK emergency services.
