"Lieutenant Ronald Alexander McGregor was one of the first 6th Seaforth officers to be killed early in the afternoon of 9 April 1918, whilst leading his platoon to stop the terrific onslaught of the enemy. He was born in Banff on 29 December 1895, the son of Alexander and Jeanie McGregor. By 1911, he was living in Hawthorn Road, Elgin with his mother and grandmother and attended Elgin Academy. A law apprentice in an Elgin firm of solicitors, and a Territorial, he was mobilised on 4 August 1914, going to France on 1 May 1915. He was commissioned in 1916 and in 1917 was invalided home with trench fever. After several months, he returned to the front line. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial and on the Elgin War Memorial and the Elgin Academy War Memorial Plaque."
