The inscription \u003cb\u003e“WORLD WAR II”\u003c\/b\u003e appears below. The reverse bears inscriptions referencing the \u003cb\u003eFour Freedoms\u003c\/b\u003e, encircled by \u003cb\u003e“UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1941–1945”\u003c\/b\u003e, reflecting the ideological aims of the Allied war effort.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eIt is suspended from its distinctive \u003cb\u003erainbow-pattern ribbon\u003c\/b\u003e, echoing the design of the First World War Victory Medal and symbolising unity among the Allied nations. Unlike its First World War predecessor, the Second World War Victory Medal was \u003cb\u003eissued without clasps\u003c\/b\u003e, as separate campaign medals were awarded for specific theatres of operations.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eAlthough authorised before the war officially ended, the medal was not issued in full form until \u003cb\u003eafter 1945\u003c\/b\u003e, having initially been worn as a ribbon only.
