His service papers describe him as \u003cb\u003e5 feet 5½ inches tall\u003c\/b\u003e, with \u003cb\u003ebrown hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion\u003c\/b\u003e, together with several distinctive scars.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eFollowing his initial training aboard \u003cb\u003eHMS Boscawen II\u003c\/b\u003e, Harrison served aboard numerous ships and shore establishments, including \u003cb\u003eHMS Royal Arthur, HMS St George, HMS Victory I, HMS Vernon, HMS Philomel, HMS Hyacinth, HMS Caradoc and HMS Weymouth\u003c\/b\u003e, building an impressive naval career that spanned Britain's final colonial campaigns and the First World War.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eA highlight of his pre-war service was his appointment to \u003cb\u003eHMS Philomel\u003c\/b\u003e on the \u003cb\u003eEast Indies Station\u003c\/b\u003e, where he took part in operations off \u003cb\u003eSomaliland\u003c\/b\u003e and in the \u003cb\u003ePersian Gulf\u003c\/b\u003e. For this service he \u003cb\u003equalified for both the Africa General Service Medal with clasp \"Somaliland 1908–10\" and the Naval General Service Medal with clasp \"Persian Gulf 1909–1914\"\u003c\/b\u003e, although \u003cb\u003ethese medals do not accompany the present group\u003c\/b\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eWith the outbreak of the \u003cb\u003eFirst World War\u003c\/b\u003e, Harrison continued his naval service and earned the \u003cb\u003e1914–15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal\u003c\/b\u003e. During the conflict he served aboard several important vessels, including \u003cb\u003eHMS Weymouth\u003c\/b\u003e, a modern \u003cb\u003eTown-class light cruiser\u003c\/b\u003e that operated in the \u003cb\u003eIndian Ocean\u003c\/b\u003e, \u003cb\u003eEast African waters\u003c\/b\u003e, with the \u003cb\u003eGrand Fleet\u003c\/b\u003e, and later in the \u003cb\u003eMediterranean\u003c\/b\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003ePromoted to Leading Seaman\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003e, Harrison completed almost \u003cb\u003efourteen years of regular naval service\u003c\/b\u003e before transferring to the \u003cb\u003eRoyal Fleet Reserve on 23rd January 1920\u003c\/b\u003e. His career encompassed both Britain's imperial policing operations before 1914 and the worldwide naval commitments of the Great War.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eThis attractive \u003cb\u003e1914–15 Star Trio\u003c\/b\u003e was awarded to a \u003cb\u003ecareer Royal Navy Leading Seaman\u003c\/b\u003e whose service extended from the \u003cb\u003eSomaliland Campaign and Persian Gulf operations\u003c\/b\u003e through to the \u003cb\u003eFirst World War\u003c\/b\u003e. Although only the trio is present, research confirms his entitlement to both the \u003cb\u003eAfrica General Service Medal (Somaliland 1908–10)\u003c\/b\u003e and the \u003cb\u003eNaval General Service Medal (Persian Gulf 1909–1914)\u003c\/b\u003e, making him a particularly interesting and well-documented Royal Navy veteran.
