Prior to and between periods of military service he was employed as a \u003cb\u003epostman with the UK Post Office\u003c\/b\u003e, and he married \u003cb\u003eViolet E. Edwards\u003c\/b\u003e, with whom he lived in \u003cb\u003eKidderminster\u003c\/b\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eEdwards enlisted into the \u003cb\u003eOxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry\u003c\/b\u003e, serving initially as a \u003cb\u003ePrivate\u003c\/b\u003e. During the inter-war period he saw overseas service with the \u003cb\u003e2nd Battalion\u003c\/b\u003e, qualifying for the \u003cb\u003eIndia General Service Medal with clasp ‘Burma 1930–32’\u003c\/b\u003e, indicating active service in Burma during operations against insurgent forces.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eBy the Second World War he had risen to the rank of \u003cb\u003eSerjeant\u003c\/b\u003e and was serving with the \u003cb\u003e1st Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry\u003c\/b\u003e. During this period he was serving within the \u003cb\u003eUnited Kingdom\u003c\/b\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eOn \u003cb\u003e30 August 1943\u003c\/b\u003e, Serjeant Edwards was \u003cb\u003eaccidentally killed while on active service\u003c\/b\u003e, aged \u003cb\u003e30\u003c\/b\u003e. His death was reported to the War Office Casualty Branch and formally recorded in the official casualty lists. He is buried at \u003cb\u003eFar Forest (Holy Trinity) Churchyard, Rock, Worcestershire\u003c\/b\u003e, where he is commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe is recorded as the \u003cb\u003eson of Thomas and Elizabeth Edwards\u003c\/b\u003e, and the \u003cb\u003ehusband of Violet E.
