A long-service Regular soldier, he had completed \u003cb\u003e11 years’ service\u003c\/b\u003e by 1914 and had seen pre-war overseas duty, being recorded in the \u003cb\u003e1911 Census serving with the 1st Battalion in India\u003c\/b\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eFlood landed in France on \u003cb\u003e27 August 1914\u003c\/b\u003e, he was first wounded in the opening months of the war: on \u003cb\u003e19 October 1914\u003c\/b\u003e he received a \u003cb\u003ebullet wound to the neck\u003c\/b\u003e and was admitted to the \u003cb\u003e14th Field Ambulance\u003c\/b\u003e, transferred onward on \u003cb\u003e20 October\u003c\/b\u003e to Bethune. Casualty lists confirm his admission to \u003cb\u003eColchester Military Hospital\u003c\/b\u003e and his appearance in \u003ci\u003eThe Times\u003c\/i\u003e casualty reports (30 November 1914).\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eFlood was wounded \u003cb\u003etwice more\u003c\/b\u003e during the war. Casualty Lists show him reported wounded on \u003cb\u003e8 August 1916\u003c\/b\u003e, and again on \u003cb\u003e1 December 1917\u003c\/b\u003e (Daily List No. 5431). In each case he was officially entitled to the wearing of the \u003cb\u003eWound Stripe\u003c\/b\u003e under Army Order 204 of 6 July 1916.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003ePost-war records place him back in Manchester. The \u003cb\u003e1921 Census\u003c\/b\u003e lists him as a \u003cb\u003eRubber Worker\u003c\/b\u003e, living at \u003cb\u003e8 Bradford Road, Ancoats\u003c\/b\u003e, with his wife and children. Earlier census entries (1901) show him born in Manchester to \u003cb\u003ePatrick and Catherine Flood\u003c\/b\u003e, and raised in the St Andrew’s parish.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003ePLEASE NOTE: All research will be sent to the buyer via email.
