Houssemayne du Boulay and Elizabeth (Bessie) Solly.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe was educated for the Army and \u003cb\u003epassed out of the Royal Military College in 1894\u003c\/b\u003e, being commissioned into the \u003cb\u003e1st Battalion, The Border Regiment\u003c\/b\u003e the same year.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe was promoted \u003cb\u003eLieutenant in 1895\u003c\/b\u003e, and \u003cb\u003eCaptain in 1902\u003c\/b\u003e, serving as a career Regular officer of the regiment during the height of the British Empire. By the 1911 Census he was serving overseas with the 1st Battalion, recorded at \u003cb\u003eRangoon, Burma\u003c\/b\u003e, reflecting the battalion’s imperial garrison service.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eOn the outbreak of the Great War the 1st Border Regiment formed part of the British Expeditionary Force. Major du Boulay \u003cb\u003earrived in France on 25th August 1914\u003c\/b\u003e, during the opening phase of the campaign following the Retreat from Mons.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe served throughout the war, attaining the rank of \u003cb\u003eMajor during the First World War\u003c\/b\u003e, remaining with his regiment through the conflict.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe died on \u003cb\u003e13th June 1921\u003c\/b\u003e, aged 46, and is commemorated on a church pew bearing the inscription:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003e“In memory of Major T.W.H. du Boulay, Border Regiment, died June 13th 1921.”\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe had married \u003cb\u003eLillian Julia Charlotte Askew\u003c\/b\u003e in 1903, the marriage reported in the contemporary press, reflecting his standing as a serving officer of the Border Regiment.
