He entered the \u003cb\u003eFrance\u003c\/b\u003e theatre of war on \u003cb\u003e1 October 1915\u003c\/b\u003e, joining the battalion at a time when it was rebuilding after the heavy fighting of the earlier 1915 campaigns and preparing for the battles that would shape the years ahead.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eBy early 1918 McCrorie was serving in \u003cb\u003eA Company\u003c\/b\u003e, attached to \u003cb\u003e39th Division\u003c\/b\u003e, and had spent over two years with the field force. On \u003cb\u003e27 February 1918\u003c\/b\u003e he was admitted to No. 34 Casualty Clearing Station suffering from a \u003cb\u003econtusion to the back\u003c\/b\u003e, likely the result of blast or physical impact sustained in the line. He was transferred onward through medical channels on \u003cb\u003e8 March 1918\u003c\/b\u003e, eventually returning to duty.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe later suffered further wounds, being recorded as \u003cb\u003e“Wounded”\u003c\/b\u003e on the official War Office casualty lists of \u003cb\u003e18 April 1918\u003c\/b\u003e and \u003cb\u003e29 August 1918\u003c\/b\u003e, entitling him to wear the \u003cb\u003eWound Stripe\u003c\/b\u003e. These repeated incidents reflect the intensity of the Black Watch’s front-line service during the German Spring Offensive and the Allied counter-offensive that followed.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eTowards the end of the war McCrorie was transferred to the \u003cb\u003eLabour Corps and then the Army Service Corps\u003c\/b\u003e, receiving the new service number \u003cb\u003eT\/41933\u003c\/b\u003e, as was common for men recovering from wounds but still fit for essential duties.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eAfter the Armistice he was living at \u003cb\u003e20 Smithfield Street, Edinburgh\u003c\/b\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003ePLEASE NOTE: All research will be sent to the buyer via email.
