He was the son of \u003cb\u003eMr. and Mrs. Robert Ewing\u003c\/b\u003e of that address.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe enlisted for service in the Army and served as a \u003cb\u003ePrivate, No. S\/40571, 7th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders\u003c\/b\u003e. During the Great War he entered the Western European theatre and served with his battalion in France and Flanders. A medical admission record shows that on \u003cb\u003e16th December 1917\u003c\/b\u003e he was admitted via the \u003cb\u003e31st Ambulance Train\u003c\/b\u003e, suffering from \u003cb\u003eimpetigo\u003c\/b\u003e, but was discharged back to duty the same day, indicating the ailment was not considered serious at the time.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eOn \u003cb\u003e28th March 1918\u003c\/b\u003e, during the height of the German Spring Offensive, Thomas Ewing was reported \u003cb\u003eMissing\u003c\/b\u003e (War Office Daily List No. 5578). He was subsequently confirmed \u003cb\u003eKilled in Action on 28th March 1918\u003c\/b\u003e, aged just \u003cb\u003e21 years\u003c\/b\u003e. His death occurred during the severe fighting that engulfed British positions in France during March 1918, when many units, including battalions of the Cameron Highlanders, were heavily engaged under intense enemy pressure.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe is buried at \u003cb\u003eFeuchy Chapel British Cemetery, Wancourt (Grave III.D.7), France\u003c\/b\u003e, and is commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. His headstone bears the personal inscription: \u003cb\u003e“ALWAYS REMEMBER.”\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eThomas Ewing’s service represents that of a young Highland infantryman who served with the 7th Camerons on the Western Front and lost his life during one of the most critical phases of the war.
