He was raised in the West Riding during a period of intense industrial activity, with textile manufacture and manual labour forming the backbone of employment in the district.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eOn \u003cb\u003e3 April 1905\u003c\/b\u003e, he married \u003cb\u003eFlorence Evelyn Hetherington\u003c\/b\u003e at Liverpool. By the time of the \u003cb\u003e1911 Census\u003c\/b\u003e, Thomas was residing in \u003cb\u003eLeeds, West Riding of Yorkshire\u003c\/b\u003e, recorded as married and employed as a \u003cb\u003egeneral labourer\u003c\/b\u003e. That same year their son, \u003cb\u003eAlfred Parratt\u003c\/b\u003e, was born in Leeds.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eAt the outbreak of the Great War he was serving with the \u003cb\u003e2nd Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment (Alexandra, Princess of Wales’s Own)\u003c\/b\u003e, a Regular battalion that formed part of the British Expeditionary Force. He proceeded to \u003cb\u003eFrance on 14 November 1914\u003c\/b\u003e, joining the battalion during the early and costly phase of trench warfare that followed the First Battle of Ypres.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe served on the Western Front throughout this formative period of the war and remained with the battalion until he was returned home. Thomas Parratt was formally \u003cb\u003edischarged on 22 May 1916 due to wounds\u003c\/b\u003e, bringing his military service to an end after approximately eighteen months of overseas duty.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eHe returned to civilian life in Yorkshire, where he remained with his family. Thomas Parratt died on \u003cb\u003e25 December 1920\u003c\/b\u003e, aged approximately 39.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003eThomas Parratt’s service represents that of an early-war Regular soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment, deployed to France in November 1914 and ultimately discharged as a result of wounds sustained during the hard fighting of the war’s opening campaigns.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"\u003ePLEASE NOTE: All research will be sent to the buyer via email.
